How to become a Whatnot seller

Apply in the app and most sellers unlock access within minutes. Who is eligible, what the application asks, and the setup that pays.

The short answer

You apply inside the Whatnot app: tap + Sell, then Get Started, answer a short set of questions, and in most cases seller access unlocks within minutes. Everything here matches Whatnot's help article on applying to sell as updated 11 August 2026, and the last section covers the part the application never asks about: the numbers that decide whether selling works for you.

Who can apply, and the requirements

Two requirements cover most sellers: you live in a country where selling on Whatnot is supported, and you are at least 13, with 13 to 17 year olds needing a parent or guardian's permission through a special application. A small number of gated categories, Luxury Bags & Accessories and Wholesale among them, need separate approval after you have seller access, applied for from Seller Status under Settings in the Seller Hub.

What the application asks

The application is short:

  1. Tap + Sell in the app, then Get Started.
  2. Answer the questions about your selling experience and agree to the Community Guidelines.
  3. Pick your primary category.
  4. Enter a return address under your full legal name exactly as it appears on your government ID. A PO Box works, the name and address can change after approval if you prefer a business name or alias, and the address you give feeds what buyers pay for shipping, which is partly distance based.
  5. Submit.

How long does approval take?

In most cases seller access unlocks within minutes of submitting. If additional review is needed, Whatnot emails next steps, so watch the inbox on your account email. Once approved, an in-app checklist walks you through scheduling your first show.

The setup the application never asks about

Before that first show, learn the two numbers the platform will charge you, commission and payment processing, from our guide to Whatnot fees, and decide where you will write down what your inventory costs. Sellers who log lot costs from day one never face the archaeology project that sellers who start in month three do. The free way to start is our profit and loss template; the honest question of whether the hours will pay is is selling on Whatnot worth it.

From first show to first verdict

Your first Weekly Order Report arrives the Monday after your first completed sales. Import it into BreakCount, add what your first lot cost, and your first show gets a verdict with its real net profit, which is the habit that separates a business from a hobby with revenue.
